Troops Stationed in the area during World War II

During World War II there was a build up of American ground forces within Northern Ireland.

The units of the 82nd Airborne Division to spend time in Northern Ireland were:

• The 82nd Airborne Signal Company
• The 82nd Airborne Military Police Platoon
• The 82nd Airborne Division Artillery Band
• The 82nd Airborne Division Infantry Band
• The 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment
• The 320th Gilder Field Artillery Battalion
• The 80th Airborne Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion
• The 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion
• The 307th Airborne  Medical Company
• The 782nd Airborne Ordnance Company

The following units were stationed at garrisons within the Coleraine Borough area:

• Portrush - 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment Troopers (Landsdowne Crescent)
• Portstewart - 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment Troopers (Camp Cromore)
• Kilrea - 'E' Battery - 80th Airborne Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalin
