Eco Schools in Coleraine Borough
The Eco-Schools programme is a Europe-wide school based programme working with 6 million pupils in 26,000 schools in 46 countries worldwide. Nearly half of Northern Ireland's schools have signed up to the programme with more signing up every day. Eco-Schools aims to promote environmental awareness, citizenship and personal, social and health education.
The Eco-Schools project has rewarded Kilrea, Killowen, Ballysally, Harpur's Hill Primary and Millstrand Nursery Schools with their highest award, the Green Flag, for their environmental achievements. Kilrea Primary School is the first and only school in Northern Ireland to achieve the Green Flag Award more than four times!

Following concern for their environment and wishing to extend the school curriculum to include practical action, Kilrea, Killowen, Harpur's Hill, Ballysally Primary Schools and Millstrand Nursery School embarked on a programme of environmental improvement under the Eco-Schools scheme.

Harpur's Hill and Killowen are Green Flag Award Primary Schools.
Eco-Schools work hard on a range of topics including litter, waste and recycling, water, energy, transport, school grounds, healthy living and biodiversity. Eco-Schools raise environmental awareness through assemblies and Eco notice boards, school newsletters and local events.
Many other schools in the Borough are registered on the programme and are working on their Bronze, Silver and Green Flag Awards.
