Arcadia

In 2001 Contractors moved onto the two acre site of the Arcadia in Portrush to undertake a £650,000 scheme including a play area and the renovation of one of the resort's most famous buildings.

Arcadia from the front

Once famous as a dancing hotspot, which hosted some of the country's most celebrated showbands, The Arcadia fell into decline. The imaginative scheme has given it a new lease of life, creating a role for the building and the surrounding area.

Play park at Arcadia

The Arcadia planned by consultants Ferguson McIlveen preserved and protected the familiar building but striped and totally refurbished its interior, creating a coffee shop (with seating for up to 60 people) and extensive indoor facilities. Outside there is an imaginative play area for children, complete with giant sand toys and climbing frames. This first phase, constructed by JPM Contractor, was completed in June 2002. A second phase will create a spectacular garden, leading onto the Blue Flag winning East Strand at Portrush.

Desi Wreath, Director of Technical Services Coleraine Borough Council, says;

"People often don't realise the importance of investing in projects such as this one. This is a very important scheme for Council involving substantial investment and it will provide locals with a wonderful facility and help retain Portrush's family appeal to visitors."

Arcadia - Phase 2

Phase 2 Building
Pahse 2

On 28 October 2002 the second phase of the Arcadia project commenced. This phase created a spectacular garden, leading onto the beautiful East Strand at Portrush.

The Arcadia project was planned by consultants Ferguson McIlveen in keeping with the surrounding area of natural beauty. The Contractor for this phase was JPM.

This phase was completed late June 2003 and now boasts a fabulous staircase leading to Portrush Main Street, with improved lighting and disabled access, a viewing terrace over looking the east strand beach and beautiful landscaped gardens with numerous seating areas for visitors and locals to relax and enjoy the spectacular view.
