Cemeteries
The Council manages 5 active cemeteries - Coleraine, Portrush (Ballywillan), Agherton, Portstewart and Kilrea - as well as 10 'old' cemeteries spread across the Borough. In the active cemeteries the grounds are maintained in a formal way with frequent grass-cutting and the 'lawn system' of burial grounds management is operated. The 'old' cemeteries are managed more informally, with less frequent cutting. For further details on cemeteries and burials, contact Registration.
The Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages has within its office a Cemeteries Administration Section. This section provides the following service:
- arranging interments with families/undertakers
- maintaining computer records of all interments within the five main cemeteries
- selling of grave plots in advance - the precise location of the plot to be identified at first interment
- issuing of permits for memorials
