BRING along your family to the Mayor's Parade and Fun Day in Coleraine on Saturday 3rd May for a feast of free entertainment. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is the theme of this year's event and you don't need a golden ticket to attend.
Join the Oompa-Loompas, Charlie Bucket, Mike Teavee and the all the favourites from this popular film for a procession through the town centre, lead by the Mayor of Coleraine, Cllr Maurice Bradley. The Events Team at Coleraine Borough Council has arranged a spectacular programme of events to celebrate this special day, and of course, to coincide with the final weeks of Cllr Bradley's term as Mayor of Coleraine.
Over one hundred and twenty schoolchildren, music to include a Samba Band and a cavalcade of vintage cars will also form part the parade on the May Bank Holiday weekend, which is hoped will attract many families to Coleraine. Face painters, balloon modelers, and cuddly walkabout characters will be in the town throughout the day for the younger children.
Mayor of Coleraine, Cllr Bradley is preparing himself for a busy day on Saturday 3rd May, he said, "Not only do we have the Mayors Parade in the afternoon, we have Davy Boyle's (MBE) Charity Jail Break in the morning and Coleraine Football Club is in the Irish Cup Final in Windsor Park. There will certainly be a buzz in the town that day and I am really looking forward to being a part of it.
The parade will enter the Town Centre at 12 noon sharp and flow up through Kings Gate Street before reaching the Town Hall. The rest of the afternoon's entertainment will be hosted by the Q97.2FM Roadshow featuring music, games, competitions, interviews, and variety acts.
